SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man was sentenced to five years probation on Thursday for assaulting a public servant.

Jason Horton, 33, of Van was arrested in November 2013 after allegedly causing a multi-vehicle accident while intoxicated. He was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and assault on a public servant.

Emergency crews who responded to the accident on Interstate 20 near Hideaway said Horton punched a Lindale firefighter at the scene. The other drivers involved in the wreck suffered minor injuries.
