Application Email Infrastructure Leader Inks Deals with Techstars, 500 Startups and Global Accelerator Network as it Expands its SendGrid Accelerate Startup Program
BOULDER, Colo., April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SendGrid, the leader in application email infrastructure, today announced strategic partnerships with Techstars, 500 Startups and Global Accelerator Network. As part of the agreements, the hundreds of early-stage startups that are accepted into one of these three major accelerator programs each year will also automatically gain acceptance into SendGrid's Accelerate Startup Program. Program acceptance gives each young company free early access to SendGrid's products, service, mentorship and support. SendGrid's Developer Relations team will be active in helping participating startups navigate the complexities of application email, including establishing excellent sender reputations, working with ISPs and learning how and when to engage with users via the email channel.
The new partnerships are in line with SendGrid's long-standing goal of helping developers and startups build and deliver innovative web and mobile applications. Startups using SendGrid can avoid the complexity of building and maintaining a proprietary application email solution and the cost of assigning developer resources to manage it. They gain the ability to deliver application email to the inbox at rates of 95 percent or more, along with a comprehensive view into delivery and engagement metrics. Common email types managed and delivered by SendGrid include registration confirmations, user signup and authentication, purchase confirmations, friend / follower requests and general activity updates and notifications.
The agreements are also another step in a startup mentoring and developers relations effort that has been a centerpiece of SendGrid's "SendGrid Everywhere" strategy since its launch in late 2009. A primary aim of SendGrid Everywhere is to expose startup teams to SendGrid as early as possible, often when the companies are small teams of two or three founders or employees. As a result, some of today's tech titans have been using SendGrid since their first year (or even months) in existence as a company, including Pinterest, Snapchat, Uber, foursquare, Dwolla and Spotify.
"Our partnerships with Techstars, 500 Startups and Global Accelerator Network represent our commitment to making startups' and developers' lives easier and to making SendGrid as accessible as possible as early as possible for startups and developers everywhere," said Paul Ford, Vice President of Product and Marketing, SendGrid. "These three accelerator programs are also philosophically aligned with SendGrid in that each places an emphasis not just on company, product development, and revenue, but also on human development, community development and the spirit of helping one another, even when participating parties may not have a stake in the eventual outcome. As a mentor at all three accelerators, I'm proud to establish these formalized partnership relationships, and to give back to the people who need our help the most."
"I've been working beside various members of the SendGrid team at events and hackathons for the last few years, and have invited many of their founders and team to travel alongside me for our Geeks on a Plane tours," said Dave McClure, Founding Partner, 500 Startups. "The SendGrid team, and in particular, the developer relations team, is broadly known and respected by developers and startups all over the world. They are an ideal partner to bring on board to help our portfolio companies as they build and launch awesome products and services."
"At its core SendGrid is a company that embraces and encourages collaboration, problem solving, creative thinking and helping others. Each of these values is symbiotic with the types of cultural values that we encourage Techstars' companies to develop and build," said David Cohen, founder, CEO and Managing Partner, Techstars. "SendGrid also has deep roots in the Techstars ecosystem. We're delighted to see one of our early Boulder class portfolio companies come full circle as a top-level sponsor of and partner to Techstars' worldwide operations."
SendGrid's Accelerate Startup Programs has been built over a long history of formal and informal agreements with accelerator programs, continuous, year-round hackathon sponsorships and hosting and an active presence at major developer conferences. All of this is enabled by an expansive Developer Relations team that spans the globe, including (but not limited to): San Francisco, New York, London, Sao Paulo, Los Angeles, Portland, Denver and Boulder.
