With only a few weeks left in the school year, that means spring sports are winding their way into playoffs time.
GHSA baseball teams are preparing for the state playoffs, which begin Friday.
Six south Georgia teams will host first round matchups, with several others going on the road.
While it's the playoffs, many coaches are just trying to keep their kids loose.
"You don't want to overplay it. Within itself is an exciting time for these kids. It's what they've been playing for, what they've been practicing for since January," says Worth Co. head coach Will Smith. "This is the culminating point of our season, and we just want to go out there and give a good ball game."
Smith says as the competition level steps up, the little things become even more crucial, especially on the defensive end.
"The cliché of defense wins championships has never been more true than in baseball," he says. "Pitching, defense, catching and throwing. If you can do those things and not make a lot of errors throwing it around, you have a good chance of winning a ballgame."
Series are best-of-three games with doubleheaders on Friday. Game threes will be played on Saturday if necessary.
