For the last two seasons, Achanti Layfield has undoubtedly been the Westover Lady Patriots court leader.
"This has been Achanti's team," says Westover head coach Lewis Smith.
The All-Region selection signed her letter of intent with Central Georgia Tech Wednesday afternoon.
During the ceremony, Smith called Layfield a hard worker you could set your watch by.
"I could always depend on her," Smith says. "Through ups and downs, she's going to be there, one of the first in the gym, ready to work, trying to get better."
Layfield got emotional as Smith continued to shower her with praise, saying she was glad to see all the hard work she put in has finally paid off.
"It means that I'm going to be on top," she says.
Layfield joins a Lady Titans team that went 22-7 last season, but lost four sophomores.
She says she expects to go to Macon and take the same role she had with the Lady Pats.
"A great player. A fabulous role model. A leader," she says about the kind of player CGTC is getting. "Someone that's going to lead their team to great success."
She says she's also excited about returning home to play a few times a year when CGTC travels to Darton State and Albany Tech.
