PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A woman was in critical condition at a Phoenix hospital after she was struck by a pickup truck as she walked in the road Wednesday night.

The truck was traveling in a curb lane on a darkened stretch of Indian School Road near 20th Avenue just after 8 p.m. when it struck the woman, said Phoenix police Lt. David Adams.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, Adams said.

Impairment was not believed to be a factor, Adams said.

"(It was) a little bit too dark for him to see and he runs into this person," Adams said.

The woman's identity was not released.

No other information was immediately available.
