SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a 14- to 15-month-old Timpson child who allegedly drowned in a bathtub on Sunday.
Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell said their 911 dispatch got a call from Nacogdoches EMS at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday that the Timpson toddler had drowned in a bathtub at a home on County Road 4694 in Timpson.
Blackwell said the parents of the child, David and Leanne Parks, woke up to their neighbor knocking on the door. He said they then found the child in the bathtub with the faucets still running.
The parents said they don't know how the accident happened because the child and his or her 3-year-old sibling were both asleep when the parents decided to take a nap, Blackwell said.
The toddler was rushed to Nacogdoches Medical Center and was pronounced dead by a Nacogdoches County justice of the peace.
Blackwell said by the time Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived on the scene, the bathroom had been cleaned. The Texas Rangers have been called in to assist with the investigation.
No arrests have been made at this time.
