Father reunited with toddler following Amber Alert

COOLIDGE, AZ (CBS5) -

A father is reunited with his 2-year-old son after police issued an Amber Alert early Wednesday morning.

The boy's father, Eric Smith, is now making a plea for the babysitter to turn herself in.

Gila River Indian Community police believe Smith's cousin and babysitter, Anna Johnson, 19, kidnapped the boy and left him overnight in an abandoned van in the desert.

Smith says his 2-year-old was found wrapped in a blanket, but by Thursday morning, he was safe and resting with family at home.

"He's here," Smith said. "No more worries about his whereabouts and if he's being fed."

Police believe the toddler's kidnapper has been on the run for over a day, possibly hiding out with friends or family.

"Do the right thing Anna," Smith said. "Just call and get yourself turned in."

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Johnson, contact Gila River Indian Community police.
