For the first time in school history, the Sherwood Christian Lady Eagles soccer team is in the state semifinals.
That's all well and good, says the team, but they aren't satisfied just yet.
"I don't just want to stop here. I don't want to get put out in this next round," says SCA sophomore Ashley Hughes. "I want to go to the next round and win state."
The Lady Eagles have cruised through the first two rounds of the AA state playoffs, and now await their semifinal opponent.
They'll play the winner of First Presbyterian Day and LaGrange next Tuesday at Darton State.
Whoever they play, the Lady Eagles feel they have a winning formula.
"All that hard work, and God's blessed us so far with great players and a winning season," says senior Victoria Davidson. "To get [a state title] would be kind of that finishing touch."
Head coach Jason Schultz says it will take a full effort from his team to make that happen.
"We need to fight for 80 minutes," he says. "Sometimes we go for a good half, or we get a lead and we'll get content with that. We can't have that."
The Lady Eagles will play in their first state semifinals at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Darton State.
