South Georgia Tech athletic director and head men's basketball coach Steven Wright has resigned.
The school announced Thursday Wright was leaving to take an associate pastor position at Central Baptist Church in Americus.
"He has made tremendous contributions to our overall athletic program. He began his career here as an assistant coach for the Jets basketball team, then moved into the head coaching position, and finally served as the head coach and athletic director," SGTC President Sparky Reeves said in a statement. "We wish him all the best in his new endeavor and thank him for what he has meant to South Georgia Technical College and this exceptional athletic program."
Wright won 102 games as the Jets head coach, and led the program to two NJCAA National Tournament appearances.
With the team's first berth in 2009, the Jets became the first Technical College System of Georgia program to earn a spot in the tournament.
SGTC will begin the search for a new head basketball coach immediately.
