NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The sixth annual KTRE Pineywoods Showdown is now behind us, and now two Nacogdoches charities are reaping the benefits.
KTRE presented a check for more than $900 to Glory Gang Ministries and Godtel. These were the two which were chosen by the Nacogdoches County boys and girls teams. Both teams recorded wins over their Angelina County rivals last month.
It was the first time either Nacogdoches County team won their game, ending a five-year losing streak.
Both charities shared their gratefulness for the support.
"That donation will more than pay our electric bill for a month, or a lot of food," said Nacogdoches Godtel Director Royce Oliver. "We don't spend much money just the basics for keeping this running and a little of our food is donated though."
"We have 10 buses and keeping 10 buses on the road with insurance, gas and just fuel," said Glory Gang Director Richard Konderla. "We spend about two grand a month and then insurance is very high."
Plans are already in the works for the seventh annual event. It will be held at Lufkin Panther Gym on April 16, 2015.
