The Deerfield-Windsor Knights needed to just hold for 20 more seconds to get to penalty kicks.
But a late run and perfectly crossed ball by Heritage ended the Knights' season in heartbreak.
After 80 minutes of regulation and one full overtime period, the Hawks scored the go-ahead goal with 20 seconds play in the second OT to move past DWS in the GISA state quarterfinals.
The Knights managed one more shot, but it was easily handled by the Hawks keeper, who held the ball before joyfully punting it into the air as the buzzer sounded.
The night was much kinder to the Lady Knights, who downed Tattnall Square, 5-1.
The Lady Knights advance to the semifinals, where they will play Augusta Prep.
That game is next week in Albany.
