LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas animal shelter needs your help to find the owner of a special dog who is lost.

A Longview animal control officer found a three legged labrador yesterday walking along highway 80 and Loop 281. Nick-named 'Nam', the dog is well fed, and is wearing a backpack specifically designed for him, with hand sewn pockets on it.

Witnesses say they saw a group of hikers in the area, and believe the dog was with them. The shelter is still trying to get in touch with the dog's owner.

"Nam's got a silver tag on him that identifies him as a service dog. Theres a phone number in California , we've tried calling the California number , we've been unsuccessful. We've got a situation where this dog has been seen and we want to know where the owner is," says shelter director Scott Holloway.

Workers at the Humane Society of Northeast Texas are caring for 'Nam' and hope someone will call with information about his owners.
