Classic cars are helping local veterans get the care and services they need.

It was the 2nd annual 'William Perkins Vietnam veterans of America auto and cycle show' in Kilgore on Saturday. From the truly classic, to the amazing, vintage models and modern muscle cars were all on display at Kilgore city park.

"They have a lot of really nice automobiles. It brings everyone together to participate and let the guys know that we haven't forgot about them," say visitors Peggy and Anthony Harris.

Some put hundreds of thousands of dollars into their models , but were still glad to pitch in for the event. "Its all about the veterans and for a benefit like this and there isn't a classic car owner that wouldn't want to be a part of this," says classic car owner Glen Karu.

"Our sole purpose chapter 987 is to help the veteran and make sure that they can make it through every day," says VVA 987 member Don Kinsey.

Funds raised by the show go to help veterans in need, and support educational needs such as scholarships in the name of the chapters founder. "The William Perkins scholarship, we give out two scholarships each semester," Kinsey says.

For some it's a mission that means more than classic cars."It makes you feel like you're part of something and you're trying to give back to the people that give to you. It's a great thing to do , and I'm proud to do it," Karu says.

Around 2-hundred classic cars were brought out to participate in the event.
