Lufkin Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week: Panty Bandit has hit at least 19 homes

LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

Between September 2009 and April 2014, an unidentified actor, or actors, burglarized at least nineteen residences in and around the Burke area of Angelina County. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies have been involved in investigating every reported case but they have not yet identified the criminal(s) and they know that, due to under-reporting, the total number of cases might be higher.

Similarities in the items stolen, the locations of the crimes, and the modus operandi of the actor(s) are what link these cases. The actor(s) have stolen dresser drawers and clothes baskets/hampers, often containing under garments, but they have also taken photographs and miscellaneous electronic items. So far, no one was home at the targeted residences but the time frame for the reported cases stretches from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Someone staying home sick from work or school might be all it takes for the actor(s) to break into an occupied residence.

Because of the nature of the items stolen, some people may feel that it is not worth reporting, or could be too embarrassing to report. Others feel that filling a burglary or theft report is a waste of time for them or the responding officer. Regardless of the reasons why possibly related incidents were not reported initially, they need to be reported to law enforcement now.

If you know who is responsible for these crimes or have noticed any suspicious activity in the Burke area but do not want anyone to know that you provided information to law enforcement, call Crime Stoppers of Lufkin at (936) 639-TIPS or submit a tip at www.LufkinCrimeStoppers.com. All calls and tips are anonymous and Crime Stoppers may pay a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest related to these crimes.
