LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 25-year-old man after he allegedly pushed his way into a home and punched one of its occupants in the mouth early Tuesday morning.

Kenneth Eugene Boone, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony charge of burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit another offense. He posted a $7,500 bail and was released from jail later Tuesday.

Sgt. David Casper, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, said the incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday. LPD officers responded to a home in the 200 block of S. Timberland Dr. in reference to a possible burglary in progress.

The victim told the officers that he or she answered a knock and cracked the door open to see who was there. At that point, the suspect, who was later identified as Boone, pushed his way inside and punched the victim in the mouth, Casper said.

After the victim gave the officers a description of Boone, the LPD officers located him in the area. Boone was identified as the suspect by the victim and two other people that had been in the room when the alleged assault occurred, Casper said.

Casper said other items were found in and around cars in the nearby parking lot. The items included a stolen gun, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, cell phones, and other electronic devices. LPD detectives will be investigating the found property, and additional charges may be pending.
