WISE COUNTY, VA (WJHL) - Virginia State Police confirmed there was a crash near Powell Valley Golf Course just after noon Monday, where two people were reportedly flown from the scene.

According to Virginia State Police news release, the crash occurred around 12:36 p.m. on Powell Valley Road, near Country Club Road in Wise County.

Witnesses told troopers that a red Ford Mustang GT -- driven by Ronald G. Trent, 28, of Big Stone Gap, Va. -- was traveling westbound on Route 610 when it lost control in a curve.

According to the release, Trent's vehicle then crossed the center line and hit a Toyota Sequoia, driven by Kendra E. Chandler, 22, of Big Stone Gap, Va.

Trent was reportedly flown to Holston Valley Medical center for treatment of serious injuries. VSP could not confirm whether or not he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The backseat passenger in the Sequoia, Betty C. Swinney, 78, was also reportedly flown to Holston Valley for treatment of serious injuries.

Chandler, and her other two passengers -- Vicky L. Chandler, 44, and Anita L. Philips, 47, were all taken by ambulance to Lonesome Pine Hospital for treatment of their serious injuries.

VSP said all individuals in the Sequoia were reportedly wearing their seat belts.

According to a release, a preliminary investigation shows speed may have been a factor in the crash. The crash investigation is still under investigation and charges are pending.
