Mesa PD sets up donations for Officer Mendoza's family

MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

The law enforcement community is seeking donations to help the family of the Mesa police officer killed by a wrong-way driver Monday morning.

Officer Brandon Mendoza, 32, was hit and killed on a southeast Valley freeway by 42-year-old Raul Silva Corona of Phoenix.

Mendoza was a 13-year veteran of the Mesa police force.

The Mesa Police Department said Tuesday there are several ways for people to help the officer's family.

Checks payable to the 100 Club of Arizona will go directly to the 100 Club Survivors fund in Mendoza's memory.

Checks payable to M. Mendoza go directly to the officer's mother.

Checks payable to The Mesa Police Association Officer Assistance Fund also go directly to Mendoza's mother.

People can also donate at any time to all Wells Fargo locations. Designate the donation goes to the Mesa Police Association Officer's Assistance Fund/Mendoza.

Mendoza was returning home from his shift when his vehicle was struck head-on.
