JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County Commissioners are still not sure who will be running the county after County Manager Tony Petelos announced he would be taking a leave of absence in June because he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Petelos is not saying what kind of cancer he has. Jefferson County Commissioners were supposed to discuss who will be running the county after Petelos stepped down but delayed any decision.

"Basically the commission's posture is we are going to wait until Mr. Petelos tells us his treatment plan. Based on that plan we will decide what we are going to do and at what time," David Carrington, Jefferson County Commission President, said.

Petelos tells FOX6 News he will have a better idea about his course of treatment as soon as he meets with his doctor within the next week. One person who may assume much of Petelos' duties may be Deputy County Manager Walter Jackson.
