PHOENIX (CBS5) -

An inmate at Lower Buckeye Jail in Phoenix has been reduced to eating only bread and water after breaking an officer's nose, according to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

MCSO said a detention officer was escorting Arryck Blanton and his cellmate back to their cell about 5 p.m. Sunday when Blanton turned around and punched the officer in the face four to five times.

Another officer used a stun gun to stop Blanton and he was taken to Fourth Avenue Jail, where he is facing a felony aggravated assault charge, MCSO said.

The officer was taken to the hospital with a broken nose, MCSO said, and he is currently on medical leave while he recovers.
