NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches County Memorial Hospital named Scott Street, a former Arkansas health provider, as its new CEO.

A pool of 77 candidates was narrowed down to four well-qualified candidates says search committee members.

The new CEO isn't in Nacogdoches quite yet, but East Texas News spoke with him by phone.

Some Memorial Hospital directors and staff managers met Street during his previous on-site visit.

"Without exception everyone was very professional and it was a very positive experience. I think it's a good match," Street said.

The last four years, Street served as president and CEO for Mercy Health System Northwest Arkansas located in Roger, Arkansas. Before that he served as CEO for two other hospitals, one in Oklahoma and another in Arkansas.

"From his work history, he's shown he's very visionary and maybe done a few more things creatively that's been beneficial to the health care where he's been," said Dr. Larry Walker, the chair of the search committee.

Street will be responsible for fulfilling a $40 million debt for a major expansion project. It represents the top issue confronting hospitals nationwide -.financial challenges.

"The health care and health care entity has got to keep up in the way of technology and services for those who they serve," Street said.

Aside from professional qualifications, the search committee placed lots of emphasis on street's personality and communication skills

"He had a very good stable family," said Jerry Whitaker, the chairman of the hospital board. "He seemed to be the type of citizen you would want to bring into your community."

Hospital staff is already filling out questionnaires noting their concerns. They'll be waiting on Street's desk when he starts work on July 7.
