LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A day after East Texas News ran a story about Lufkin Crime Stoppers seeking the public's help in finding the driver of a pickup that struck a bicyclist on Lotus Lane on April 28, the man contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety about the accident.

A press release from Lufkin Crime Stoppers said the accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28. A bicyclist riding along Lotus Lane (FM 1194) was struck by a passing vehicle.

The accident occurred while both the vehicle and bicycle were traveling westbound in the 5900 block of Lotus Lane, near the entrance to the Oncor Electric Delivery facility and about one half mile from Loop 287/North John Redditt Drive in Lufkin.

Unaware of the extent of his injuries, the 53-year-old male bicyclist did not obtain the vehicle information or the contact or insurance information of its driver. The victim was later treated for a concussion and injuries to his back and ribs.

The victim described the vehicle as a newer model Dodge Ram that was a three-quarter ton or larger. He believes that the truck is a three-quarter-ton or larger and diesel-powered, and said that it possibly is white in color.
