Fargo, ND (WDAZ) - A North Dakota High School student had extra excitement during her graduation ceremony with a surprise visit from her military father.

The Grand Forks, North Dakota graduation ceremony started like any other, with speeches, music, and diplomas. For Taylor Crafton, one thing was missing, her military father. "I don't think I really realized that he wasn't going to be here until he called me because it was the same number that he's been calling me from the past five months," she said.

Taylor Crafton's father, Chris, was deployed to Cuba as a member of the Air Force. When the family didn't think that he would make it to the ceremony, they had a card board cut out made. It turns out they didn't need it. "I'm just so happy he's here, better than a car better than anything, so yeah that's all I wanted for graduation," said Taylor.

Chris has gone through 9 deployments since Taylor was 3-months-old. He said, "For a total of about 1,782 days to be exact over the years. She's missed a lot, I've missed a lot you know birthdays, christmas that kind of thing, so I just tried my best to get here for when she graduated. This is my last deployment so I had to make it happen."

Taylor wasn't the only one in the Crafton family surprised by Chris' presence, no one knew he would be there.
