Restaurant Report Card: Oriental Pearl Seafood

CHAMBLEE, GA (CBS46) -

From Marietta to Alpharetta, we've got you covered on this week's Restaurant Report Card.

CBS46 uncovered some critical violations inside one DeKalb County restaurant. Oriental Pearl Seafood Restaurant at 5399 New Peachtree Rd. in Chamblee failed with only 41 points and a "U" for unsatisfactory.

"Have you ever received a score this low?" CBS46's Adam Murphy asked.

"Never, I've been here 9 years and that's the first time I got that," Oriental Pearl Seafood owner Fannie Lee said.

The report says an employee did not wash their hands after touching their face. Plus, dishes stored as clean were unclean and egg rolls were at an unsafe temperature.

"I don't know what happened, but it's not that bad," Lee said.

"A 41 is not that bad?" Murphy asked.

"Yeah, but they touched their face and take 10 points out," Lee said.

"Are your employees now trained to wash their hands?" Murphy asked.

"Right, they do, they do," Lee said.

The owner told CBS46 she has hired a food safety specialist to retrain her entire staff.

"Is your food safe to eat?" Murphy asked.

"Yes. It's safe. We've had no problem at all," Lee said.

One thing Lee didn't do was post the current health inspection report for the public to see. She told us the inspector took the inspection report with him.

Oriental Pearl Seafood Restaurant scored 71 points and a "C" on a reinspection on May 28, 2014.

Now to some good scores:

Subway at 1227 Rockbridge Rd. in Gwinnett County scored a 94 and an "A." In Paulding County, Hickory Hut at 531 West Memorial Dr. in Dallas picked up a 96 and an "A," and in Cobb County, It's Greek To Us at 1355 Church St. in Marietta received a perfect 100.

Milton's at 800 Mayfield Rd. near Alpharetta was our featured restaurant of the week. They serve some of the freshest ingredients that come right of their own garden. Plus, they've scored four 100s in a row.
