In the statewide races, the Associated Press has called the Republican runoff in the lieutenant governor's race in favor of challenger Dan Patrick.

Patrick took a lead over incumbent David Dewhurst early on Tuesday evening and never relinquished it. As of 10 p.m., Patrick had 448,383 votes to Dewhurst 239,184, winning by a margin of 65.21 percent to 34.78 percent.

Patrick will now face Democrat Leticia Van de Putte in the November general election.

According to the Associated Press, Patrick, a conservative radio talk show host, helped found the Texas Legislature's Tea Party Caucus.

Democrat David Alameel cruised to an easy victory over his opponent, Kesha Rogers, in the runoff election for U.S. Senator. The Associated Press called the race in his favor early on Tuesday night. Alameel garnered 72.74 percent of the vote as of 10 p.m., and Rogers only accounted 27.32 percent.

Alameel will face Republican John Cornyn, the incumbent, in the November general election.

Nacogdoches County election records stated that only 9 percent of the registered voters in that county voted in the runoff election. Angelina County reported a similarly low voter turnout Tuesday. Only 7 percent of the registered voters in Angelina County voted in the runoff election.

In Nacogdoches County, Republican incumbent Elton Milstead won a narrow victory over his challenger, Darren Cook, in the Pct. 4 Commissioner race by a margin of 509 to 444.

Less than 100 votes separated the two GOP candidates in the runoff election for Pct. 1 commissioner's seat, but Greg Harrison held on to win the seat once held by his late brother, Rick Harrison. Greg Harrison beat Steve Allen, who was appointed to fill out the remainder of Rick Harrison's unexpired term. Harrison won by a margin of 609 to 528.

Incumbent Scott Cooper lost to challenger Bobby Cheshire in the GOP's Pct. 4 commissioner runoff. Cheshire won by a margin of 695 to 595.
