SFA hurdler prepares for her first West Preliminaries:'She can compete'

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Select members of the Stephen F. Austin track and field team are one meet away from heading to nationals, as they are preparing for the West Preliminaries.

One of those members include hurdler Stephanie White.

The junior holds the school record in the 100 meter hurdles after recording a time of 13.44 seconds.

In the 400 meter hurdles, she is close to breaking the school record when she crossed the line at 59.86 seconds.

This is White's first West Preliminaries, but her coach says she can compete.

"I think she'll compete. I don't think she will be overwhelmed a bit," said Sean Lonegran, the sprints and hurdler coach. "After Texas Relays and some other bigger meets like Alabama Relays, she showed she can step up when the time comes."

"I'm pretty sure I'll be nervous, but I always calm myself down right before the race, and just get pumped up and ready to go," said White.

White will compete in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles in the West Preliminaries taking place in Arkansas. Her races begin Friday.
