LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina County grand jury has "no-billed" a 23-year-old man who was involved in a fatal accident on US 69 South just outside of Huntington on May 30, 2013.
The "no-bill" ruling in regard to a criminally negligent homicide charge meant that the grand jury didn't believe there was enough evidence to proceed with a criminal trial for Joshua David Goins, of Huntington.
The two-vehicle accident resulted in the death of Michael Randall Yates, 43, of Huntington. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to DPS spokesman David Hendry, Yates was driving a maroon Nissan four-door south on US 69 and attempted to turn into a driveway when a black Jeep Patriot driven by Goins ran into the back of it.
The car spun into a ditch, and the SUV flipped.
Both lanes of traffic were blocked for a short time as emergency responders work to clean up the scene, and traffic was backed up a considerable difference in each direction.
Patty and Billy White, long time friends of Yates, said in a previous East Texas News story that wrecks along Highway 69 between Huntington and Zavalla are becoming a common occurrence and something needs to be done to stop them.
