Douglass Indians baseball team prepares for state finals: 'We're not satisfied yet'

ROUND ROCK, TX (KTRE) - The Douglass Baseball team is heading to the state finals after sweeping Dawson High School in the state semifinal game Wednesday morning 9-0.

Although the boys were happy, head coach Eugene Lafitte said there wasn't much celebration because they aren't satisfied yet. In fact, he says they won't be satisfied until the are named the state champions. Then Coach Lafitte said they will celebrate.

"Since day 1 of practice this has been their goal. They've achieved their goal to get to the state championship game, and they know what is at hand, and they're ready to finish it, and claim that state championship," said Coach Lafitte.

Douglass will now play Flatonia High School who played their semi final game after the Indians.

The team stuck around to watch Flatonia play so they could scout their team.

"Flatonia is scrappy, they put the ball in play, and they play great defense," said Coach Lafitte. "Their pitchers know how to throw strikes. We will probably face their best pitcher tomorrow, but we will have ours also on the mound. They are coached very well."

Douglass and Flatonia will face off Thursday morning at 9. They will play at Dell Diamond Field in Round Rock.
