LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 55-year-old man on an injury to a child charge after he allegedly hit his 11-year-old daughter in the face with a plastic bucket on Thursday.

Pedro Enrique Cuscon, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina county jail on a third-degree felony charge of injury to a child. No bail amount was available.

According to the arrest affidavit, a Lufkin Police officer was dispatched to the Lufkin Memorial Hospital emergency room Thursday night in reference to an allegation that Cuscon had assaulted his daughter. Dispatch informed the officer that Cuscon was probably still at his home in the 500 block of Pinehurst Street.

The child's mother told the LPD officer that she and three of her children were in their living room watching television when she heard her 11-year-old daughter yelling hysterically. When she and the other children went to check on the girl, they found her bleeding from her face near her left eye, the affidavit stated.

When the mother asked her daughter what had happened, the 11-year-old girl told her that her father had hit her with a plastic bucket. The mother called 911 but decided to take the girl to the hospital because 911 took too long. According to the affidavit, she told the LPD officer that Cuscon told her he didn't hit the girl.

Further investigation revealed that the 11-year-old girl and her 7-year-old sister were in a room of their house primarily used for storage, and they were looking for the older sister's cat. According to the affidavit, the two sisters got into an argument because the older sister thought the younger girl had lost her cat.

When Cuscon came to the room to see what was going on, the older girl blocked to door by putting her body in front of it. The affidavit stated her father pushed the door open and entered the room.

The younger sister told the LPD officer that her father told her to go to the living room. As she was going to the living room, she turned around and saw her father hit her older sister in the face with a black plastic bucket, according to the affidavit.

One of the other children told the Lufkin Police officer that his father had told him that he threw the plastic bucket on the floor, and it caused injury to the 11-year-old girl when it bounced off the floor and hit her in the face. The other two children said they only heard the victim screaming.

Another LPD officer went to interview Cuscon at his residence. Cuscon allegedly told the officer that the victim and her younger sister were in the storage room of their house with the door closed, and when he opened the door, he accidentally hit the 11-year-old in the face, causing bodily injury.
