The area shaded in green represents the "slight" risk for severe weather on Thursday evening.
The best time frame to see thunderstorms in the Piney Woods will be during the mid-to-late evening hours.
EAST TEXAS (KTRE) -
Even though our weather is sunny and quiet right now, rapid changes will take place on Thursday as a fairly strong upper air disturbance will be tracking in from the north. This disturbance will generate a thunderstorm complex that should roll into the Piney Woods during the mid-to-late evening hours on Thursday.
There is a possibility that some of these storms could be severe as they rumble through our area. The main threat looks to be damaging winds as they will be racing from the north to the southeast at a fairly good clip.
Due to the fast motion of these storms, we will not see as much rain with this system compared to the one we saw that came through here earlier in the week. However, locally heavy rain will accompany these storms as a quick one inch of rain in less than an hour is certainly possible.
With a chance for severe weather on Thursday evening, make sure
you download our FREE KTRE
weather app. If you don't have a smart phone, you can sign up for our
service. Both of these features will alert you to severe weather the
instant a severe weather warning is issued where you live. Even if you do
not receive bad weather in your neighborhood, having one or both of these
products will be useful for future severe weather outbreaks that take place down the line.
