"You don't know who you are until you know where you've been," says author Bill O'Neal.
He grew up getting to know his family's background through stories his Grandmother told. Those stories, and hours watching western movies as a boy nurtured his love of history and inspired the twenty-six books he's written, including his latest, "Sam Houston Slept Here."
In researching "Sam Houston Slept Here", O'Neal not only visited Houston's home in Huntsville, but also covered homes of Republic of Texas Presidents, Texas Governors and Texas Presidents of The United States, including George Herbert Walker and George W. Bush. East Texas is well represented in the book with Governor Jim Hogg's birthplace in Rusk and his honeymoon cottage in Quitman. Hogg was the state's first native born governor.
O'Neal says that Texas has the most colorful and rich history of any place, and he's proud to be a Texan.
