LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

On Wednesday, a suspect or suspects broke into a fuel pump at the Love's convenience store in the 100 block of S. Medford Drive and stole 526 gallons of diesel valued at $1,971.97.

Sgt. David Casper, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, said an LPD officer responded to the Love's store in reference to a report of diesel theft and criminal mischief. When the officer made contact with one of the employees, who said the suspect or suspects had removed the front cover from a diesel pump and drilled through the puck lock.

Casper said once the puck lock had been removed, the suspect or suspects had access to the pulse reader meter, a plastic gear wheel that registers the fuel that is being dispensed. Without the gear, the person or persons had access to all they fuel they wanted.

Anyone with any information about this diesel theft, should call the Lufkin Police Department at (936) 633-0356.
