BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

After 54 horses were discovered at a home in Sampson County, volunteers from the Wilmington area jumped in to help rehabilitate the ailing animals.

The U.S. Equine Rescue League rescued 14 horses but there are still 40 left to be saved. Crystal Jordan has begun to help rehabilitate Weaver.

Weaver was discovered with multiple health issues such as lice, cuts and bruises, sunburn, overgrown hooves and malnourished with intestinal problems.

"Weaver is strong. I think she is going to do well once we get her back to health," said Jordan.

According to Jordan, it will take Weaver up to seven months for her to start getting better, it is hard work but Weaver is worth it.

"I think that's why I was put on this earth-it's emotionally draining sometime but that's my passion is horses," said Jordan.
