NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Deputies with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office arrested a 34-year-old man on Tuesday after he allegedly whipped his 9-year-old son with a water hose hard enough to leave lacerations and bruises on his left leg and arm.

David Wayne Cooper, 34, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of injury to a child. His bail has been set at $25,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, a NCSO investigator was assigned the case on April 28 after someone reported the alleged incident, which occurred earlier that day. The investigator looked at photos of the boy's injuries and noticed red marks and bruising to the front and back of the boy's left leg and on the back of his left arm, according to the affidavit.

When the investigator interviewed the boy on May 6, the child said his father whipped him with a water hose because the boy had lied to him.

"[The] victim stated that he had spooked a horse, and when his dad asked him about it, he lied to his dad and said he didn't do anything," the affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated that the victim still had bruising on his arm and leg when the investigator interviewed him on May 6.
