LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Angelina and Nacogdoches counties saw an increase in their jobless rates for the month of May.
The slight spike in unemployment numbers mirrored the kind of change that was seen at the statewide and Deep East Texas Workforce Development Area levels.
Angelina County's jobless rate was 5.2 percent in the month of May, compared to the 4.6 percent reported in April. That unemployment number is still considerably lower than the 6.2 percent lower than the county's jobless rate for May 2013. Of a workforce of 40,271, a total of 38,164 were employed.
To the north, Nacogdoches County's jobless rate was 5.1 percent for the month of May, compared to the 4.5 percent reported in April. The county's unemployment rate was 6.3 percent in May 2013. Last month, 29,434 people of an available workforce of 31,029 were employed in Nacogdoches County.
The City of Lufkin also saw an increase in its jobless numbers in regard to the month of May. Lufkin went from 4.5 percent in April to 5.3 percent in May, and its unemployment rate was 6.3 percent in May 2013.
Jobless numbers for "the oldest town in Texas" went from 4.6 percent in April to 5.4 percent. Nacogdoches' unemployment rate was 6.5 percent in May 2013.

Houston County: 6.9 percent (6.4 percent)
Jasper County: 7.4 percent (7.0 percent)
Newton County: 8.4 percent (8.6 percent)
Polk County: 6.7 percent (6.1 percent)
Sabine County: 10.9 percent (10.3 percent)
San Augustine County: 7.6 percent (7.5 percent)
San Jacinto County: 5.7 percent (5.0 percent)
Shelby County 5.3 percent (5.2 percent)
Trinity County: 5.8 percent (5.3 percent)
Tyler County: 7.3 percent (7.0 percent)
