A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrested a 26-year-old Huntington woman late Friday night after allegedly drove drunk with her 1-month-old son in the pickup with her.
Lindsey Shaye Walker was booked into the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 in the car. She posted a $5,000 bail and was released from the jail on Sunday.
Trooper David Hendry, a DPS spokesman, said a trooper stopped a 2013 Dodge truck on US 69 south of Lufkin at approximately 11:41 p.m. for traffic violations and because the driver, who was later identified as Walker nearly collided with another vehicle. Hendry said the trooper reported that he noticed a strong smell of alcohol as he approached the pickup.
"Walker reportedly exhibited signs of intoxication as she exited the vehicle and also admitted to consuming alcohol," the press release stated.
After Walker performed poorly on the field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody for DWI with a child, Hendry said. Her baby boy was released into the custody of a family member.
Walker was transported to the Angelina County Jail, where a breath test revealed that she was over the legal limit, the press release stated.
