ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 31-year-old Lufkin man on Monday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 25-year-old woman at her home early Sunday morning.
Gabriel Steven Gonzales is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault and a third-degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance less than one gram. Collectively, his bail has been set at $60,000.
According to the arrest affidavit, Gonzales followed the woman to her residence on Benton Drive in Angelina County at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday. He allegedly pulled her out of her vehicle, threw her to the ground, and took her cell phone. The assault occurred in front of the woman's children, ages 4 and 5, the affidavit stated.
Gonzales returned to the residence at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday under the pretense that he was going to give the woman her phone back, the affidavit stated. When the woman walked out to Gonzales' truck to get her phone, he allegedly forced her into the truck and forcibly removed her clothes before he sexually assaulted her.
According to the affidavit, Gonzales attempted to strangle the woman with his left hand as he was sexually assaulting her.
The victim told Angelina Sheriff's Office investigators that Gonzales' eyes "were glossy and he was slurring his speech," the affidavit stated.
The woman was taken to Harold's House in Lufkin for a SANE exam. The nurse who conducted the SANE exam found that the victim had injuries that were consistent with sexual assault. In addition, the investigator who obtained the arrest warrant noticed bruising to the victim's right arm that was consistent of her description of a violent struggle.
When she talked to the investigator, the victim told him that she was afraid for her life while she was being sexually assaulted, the affidavit stated.
