Former Nacogdoches mayor remembered

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Visitation for longtime Nacogdoches public servant James Raney was held Monday.

Raney died on Saturday following a lengthy illness.

Raney served nine years as trustee on the Nacogdoches ISD school board, including two years as president and 10 years on the city commission, including two as mayor.

The Rotarian served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve for six years before moving to Nacogdoches to open Varsity Book Store.

James Raney's funeral is Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches. Raney was 74. Cason Monk Funeral Home is conducting arrangements.
