NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches man has been arrested for allegedly abandoning three dogs.

Jamal Lavon Rogers, 29, of Nacogdoches, is charged with misdemeanor A cruelty to non-livestock animals.

According to the arrest affidavit, a citizen called about a previous resident on County Road 779 leaving three dogs behind.

When deputies arrived they found three pit bull mix dogs in poor condition.

After further investigation they found an overdue water bill that was linked to Rogers and another woman.

Police don't know how long Rogers and the woman have been gone but suspect the dogs have been without care for five or more months.

The affidavit says that the dogs had been left without food for so long that their ribs and spine were visible under their skin.
