LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin woman is accused of stealing more than $33,000 from her employer over an eight month period.

Tamara Leanne Powers, 29, has been charged with theft between $20,000 and $100,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, Powers was a desk cashier for Dr. Gregory Tate of the Oral & Facial Surgery Group and was responsible for handling all financial transactions.

Dr. Gregory Tate and his office manager reported the stolen money after they noticed several discrepancies in their nightly deposit reports.

After further investigation officers found that Powers had allegedly failed to log several cash transactions between the months of April 2013 - December 2013.

There were also several  unexplainable cash deposits in her personal bank account.

Powers has been released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
