LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

More construction is moving into Lufkin as a hot mix laying project continues on FM 819 near College Drive.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, maintenance crews will be applying a "hot mix overlay to the roadway from Loop 287 to U.S. 59 S."

TxDOT also urges safety since there will be a pilot car leading traffic through the work zone for the remainder of the week.

"This is an active work zone on a heavily traveled roadway so it is imperative that motorists exercise caution and patience when driving through it," said Kathi White, TxDOT spokeswoman. "Wait for the pilot vehicle to take you safely through which could mean a short delay in your travels or avoid the area and take another route to reach your destination ."

The project is expected to be completed in about a week.
