Posted: Updated:
LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - In two days, the pineywoods’ skies will be lit up by thousands of fireworks, with the biggest display in being in Lufkin.

The 9th annual Lufkin fireworks extravaganza at the Ellen Trout Park offers a full day of fun for the entire family no matter the age. The main attraction starts at 9 p.m. with a full day of events leading up to it. Organizers say the show put on in Lufkin can rival any of the others across the state.

"The fireworks that go off are fired off of two custom trailers that shoot off in the course of the event 1,400 to 1,500 shells in the course of the 25 minute show and then in the finale we got probably close to 800 to 900 shells in three minutes,” said event organizer Mike Love.

Lufkin ISD will be running a free shuttle services from the high school to the park. The shuttles run from 5 to 8-45 p.m. and then will take riders back to the school following the conclusion of the show. LISD will have police officers monitoring cars left at the school.
