LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Rooster is curious and ready to get on the trail.

“He is actually a hunting dog, and I believe that's what the previous owners used him for, a hunting dog,” said Aaron Ramsey, the director of the Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter. “He would tree raccoons. He’s a sweet guy. he’s about two years old.”

Rooster is a treeing Walker hound mix with a laid-back attitude and pretty coat.

Rooster is just about as calm cool and collected as they come. He has some hunting experience, so he might make a good fit with a family who enjoys that.

"He is good with kids we do know that and would make a great family pet," Ramsey said. "He's used to being outdoors quite a bit. He'd probably be really good with a home that he would continue to be outside and get exercise."

"He's a really great dog. Good temperament and as you can tell he's not real hyper. He's not one to kind of jump and he's got really good manners," Ramsey said.

It's the dog days of summer July special at Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter.

"You can adopt any dog in the shelter for $30, and that includes the spay/neuter and first round of shots, so it's a really really good deal," Ramsey said.
