Monday morning, Scott Street New CEO Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital made his rounds introducing himself to his staff.
"About a year and a half ago, we lost our CEO Tim Hayward. “He had been a longtime member of our hospital family. He had been with us for over 30 years," said Kim Barton, the community relations director at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital
Barton has worked for Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for over 25 years, and she said after Hayward’s departure, things were a little bit rough, but she believes that Street is the right man for the position. Street said he sees a lot of great opportunity and potential within the hospital, and he doesn't plan on making any changes just yet.
"I'll spend a number of weeks getting to know the team members, understanding the culture, and getting to know the community," Street said.
He said he has some great ideas, but acting prematurely can be a huge injustice to the hospital. It will take some time to gain perspective and grasp the bigger picture before putting his leadership into play. As far as Street’s vision for the hospital goes, he shared that there will be a huge focus on customer service, and his idea will surround the hospital’s current $40 million expansion project.
"From the new woman’s center to the surgery suites, finishing that up is very important. By then, we will also have the input as to what else is needed," Street said.
Barton said the staff didn't have a direct hand in choosing Street, but said he will have the staff’s full support moving forward.
"We think he is going to be an effective leader," Barton said.
Street has 25 years of experience in the health care field and prior to his hiring, he spent the last four years as the president and CEO of the Mercy Health Systems in Arkansas.
