Despite shootings, Toledo police say holiday weekend was quiet

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police say firearm use is common over the weekend of July 4. This past weekend, there were several shootings, but police say crime was still relatively low.

On Saturday, a man was shot and killed on Vance Street in central Toledo. The next day, two men wound up in the hospital with gunshot wounds from an altercation on Fernwood Avenue. Police are still looking for suspects in these shootings.

Another shooting was the result of an argument on Vermaas, and a family on the 200 block of North Gate had a round fired into their home. No one was injured in either of these shootings.

Police say they arrested one man Friday night during the fireworks event, which brought thousands of people to downtown Toledo. The man was arrested for having a gun.

Despite these incidents, police say it was a relatively quiet holiday weekend.
