ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Buncombe County deputies are wanting to bring awareness to parents who owe a lot of money in child support, and they've taken to Facebook to help target what they called the most egregious offenders.

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office Child Support Fugitives Facebook page, launched last month, showcases wanted posters for people, both men and women, who owe potentially thousands in child support payments.

Their faces, aliases, last known address, age, height and weight are posted, much like a wanted poster for any major crime. As of Wednesday evening, the page had 500 likes.

"It's definitely a way to hold them responsible for what they're supposed to be doing," said Sheriff Van Duncan.

Deputies said since the program started June 30, they've picked up 38 individuals on the page and have collected $87,000 in child support.

That averages to around $2,500 per offender.

A neighbor of one of the men whose photo was posted on the page said he had some concerns.

"I understand that you need to take care of your children, I've taken care of mine, I've always taken care of mine...but I just think the Facebook page and how they're doing it is a little bit too much," said neighbor Reginald Robinson.

Duncan said those who pay up will get their photo taken off the page. Those who don't, face jail time.

"What they're failing to provide has a pretty serious impact on the kids they're responsible for," Duncan said.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
