East Texas jobless rates take moderate jump

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A look at the unemployment numbers for the month of June for East Texas would at first indicate bad news. However, a closer look does show improvement.

While the overall rate and total number of unemployed shows an increase, so does the total number for those employed.

In Angelina County, for instance, the rate jumped to 5.4 percent in June, compared to 5.2 percent in May. And while the total number of those unemployed jumped from 2,106 to 2,165, so did the number of those employed, from 38,155 to 38,264.

That pattern represented the entire region and the state, with more workers entering the labor force.
