LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Children in Lufkin and Nacogdoches were given the chance to meet Smokey the Bear at the premier of Disney's "Planes 2: Fire and Rescue".
The Texas A&M Forest Service was at the Carmike Cinema in Nacogdoches while the U.S. Forest Service was at the Carmike Cinema inside the Lufkin Mall.
Both groups hope to show children that what they see in the movie can be translated over to real life.
"This movie is going to give an insight into what the U.S. Forest service does and lets everyone out there know what we are doing with fire safety and fire awareness," said Mandy Chumly with the U.S. Forest Service.
"When we have bad fires in Texas, we do use aviation resources, so it is perfect for us to be here today and have our firefighting equipment and Smokey Bear," said Jan Amen with Texas A&M Forest Service.
The groups will have representatives at both theaters on Saturday as well with a chance to meet Smokey the Bear.
