LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An alleged reckless driver is behind bars after hitting another vehicle with his car, and fleeing the scene on foot Friday evening.

Travis Smith has been charged with fleeing the scene of the accident for the alleged crime. Shortly after 7 p.m., a dark pickup truck was seen driving recklessly in the southbound lanes of John Redditt Drive in Lufkin, said Cpl. Trent Sobolewski with the Lufkin Police Department. Witnesses claim the driver was traveling at a high rate speed, he said.

Sobolewski said Smith somehow ended up rear ending a vehicle on the loop before pulling his vehicle into the parking lot of nearby apartments. Smith, then, allegedly got out of his car and fled the scene before shortly being arrested by officers.

Martha Sanabria said she was driving south on John Redditt Drive when she noticed a car slow down behind her. She then said she saw a dark truck coming straight towards her before the truck hit the back of her car.

"He came out of nowhere," Sanabria said.

Thankfully, she didn't sustain any injuries.
