NEAR CHENEY, WA (KXLY/CNN) - Firefighters are working long hours trying to get a handle on wildfires burning in Washington State.

The Watermelon Hill fire near Cheney, WA, has grown to 13,000 acres.

Nearly 300 firefighters worked to put out hot spots and cut fire lines.

It's just one of the blazes burning in the state.

Resources are stretched thin and crews are working around the clock trying to contain the flames.

In all, officials say the fires have burned about a quarter-million acres of land.
