WINFIELD, AL (WBRC) -

The owner of two rings found attached to two blue balloons in Marion County has come forward to explain why she let her rings go.

A Winfield family found those rings, still attached to the balloons, in their yard on July 6.

On Monday, Caley Burkett told FOX6 News she just wanted to get rid of her past and look to the future.

So she and her fiance Stiles Blevins decided to tie her old wedding rings to two blue balloons and release them into the air from their home in Brookwood.

"Letting go, you know, of the past. You don't need something like that," Burkett said.

"We didn't want money for them. Just that night we came home after a bonfire about 12:30, maybe one, walked to the bottom of the hill and let them go," Blevins said.

Burkett thought she would never see the rings again but two days later, the balloons with the rings attached landed in an empty field roughly 75 miles away in Winfield.

Fifteen-year-old Brenton Weeks and his little brother found them near their home.

"I was just shocked because I'd never heard or seen that before," Weeks said.

The Weeks turned the rings over to Winfield Police. After our orginial story ran on FOX6 News, Burkett posted on the MyFoxAL.com Facebook page saying the rings are hers. She never imagined someone would actually find them.

"We thought that they were going to land in a tree and we thought we would never hear from them again," Burkett said.

Burkett told us she doesn't want the rings back because she's ready to move on with her life.

"It's a new beginning," Burkett added.

Burkett and Blevins say they plan to marry on Halloween.

Winfield Police are still waiting to hear from Burkett.
